Regrettably it seems the YouTube copy of this talk/chapter has been flagged as having "inappropriate" content (despite that fact that it is, in our opinion, a scholarly talk based on careful and detailed research and delivered in a neutral, informed and polite tone).

The Chapter can still be seen and heard on
http://the-koran.blogspot.com/2009/07/sharia-part-211-of-d.html

however there is no facility on that page for comment or futher discussion.

Also on 211A on YouTube where a supporter of ours (orthodoxkaffir) was kind enough to upload a copy

Naturally we have appealed the decision by YouTube to forcibly remove this talk. We accept that there will be those who do not share our views or agree with all that we say. However we have never, and will never, "flag" any of their movies in a cowardly attempt to silence them. We believe that everyone should be allowed to see, hear and read all points of view then decided for themselves.

If you agree that this video should be reinstated please do send them a message requesting that they do so. You can do this online using the following form; http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/request.py

Here once again are the title and former URL for our now removed video;
  • Sharia' - Part 211 A (of A-D)
  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeeKI3uQqto&feature=channel_page (no longer available but needed for the YouTube form)
Perhaps you could explain that it was an educational video (one of a 4 part series) you need to watch again from time to time and that you wanted to share with friends and other YouTube users?

Here is what we sent to YouTube on our appeal form;

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am a scholar. I was born in Iraq but am now living in exile due to the violence and political unrest of my native land. I have been researching the subject of the Quran for almost 3 decades in Arabic (my native tongue) and communicating my findings calmly, honestly and professionally to a loyal and growing audience through various different means of communication including talks (which I write and present myself) on YouTube.

We have a many well educated, grateful and extremely dedicated supporters, for example we’re proud to include PatCondell (one of your “hottest” users with over 3.3 million channel views) who recently marked as a “favourite” our video “Sharia Part 211B of (A-D)” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7Id9_XZPWE&feature=channel_page which is the companion to the one that has just been forcibly taken down.

I also, unfortunately, attract the attention of a number of generally less articulate and less well educated people who are full of hate and anger and try hard to silence me (and any others who, like me, have detailed and accurate knowledge of my subject). It is easy to see the rude and angry comments that such people leave in response to my various talks and compare them to the far more numerous and considerably more literate and coherent comments made by the people keenly following my talks and trying to improve their knowledge and understanding of the subject.

My assumption (which I accept may be incorrect) is that our video entitled “Sharia Part 211A of (A-D) “ was flagged by one of the small number of angry detractors of our channel. Some of these people even go to the trouble of creating and uploading angry, and often very rude, response videos but we would never consider flagging these as we believe in free speech and would like people to be able to see both their and our videos decide for themselves.

Perhaps therefore our video was flagged as a tactic by one of our detractors and a member of staff at YouTube thought it wiser to err on the side of caution and remove our video even if it contained no clear violation of any policy, only points of view not universally agreed upon?

If so then we believe this may have been on overreaction and I would be really appreciate a review and subsequent reinstatement of our very carefully researched and painstakingly made educational video.

It is of course possible that there really is something within our video that genuinely violates a copyright? If so we were unaware of it but would be perfectly willing to remove the offending content re-generate and re-upload the video without it. We are only guessing but realise there is a miniscule possibility that one of the small number of photographs included for just a few seconds (all of which we sincerely believed to have been "public domain" and so copyright free) might actually not be copyright free after all? If so please just advise us and we’ll gladly comply with any directions or advice you can provide (and please remove any “black mark” or flagging of our channel as we really are considerate and careful people and do not remotely wish to cause offence or break any Community Guidance or Policies).

There are potentially hundreds, if not several thousand, people who would still very much like to see and comment on this video. We worked hard to make it and believe it is one of our very best to date.

As you can see from my channel statistics I have uploaded 256 video to date (all of which – unlike for many YouTube users - are entirely my own work) and I have had over 64,000 channel views.

Please reinstate our movie together (if possible) with all the comments and ratings it has already received (and remove the "black mark" against our channel). If this cannot be done please at least explain why you felt it essential to remove it as we otherwise consider it very unfair and frustrating.

Kind Regards,
Ibn al Rassooli
